Tim Stewart was a Republican candidate in the 2011 special election for District 6 of the Connecticut State Senate.

Stewart was the current mayor of New Britain, CT. Prior to serving as mayor, he served as a member of the Board of Education and the minority leader for the New Britain City Council. He held the office of Mayor for four terms. During his tenure as mayor, Stewart pursued fiscal reforms, improving the city's bond rating. He also promoted school renovation, introduced single-stream recycling, and promoted investment in the city.

Campaign themes

Stewart's campaign website emphasized several key policy positions and campaign themes:

  • "Tim’s seven years as Mayor have allowed him to acquire first-hand experience about how the state government currently treats municipalities and businesses and has given him the insight needed to make changes to improve that relationship. He has seen how unfunded mandates challenge our community leaders every day, how the minimum budget requirement for education handcuff our middle class communities from keeping education costs under control, even if enrollment declines from one year to another, and how state government impedes economic development. Tim will vote against unfunded mandates, putting an end to the unfair burdens state government places on municipalities and work to bring common sense to the way education is funded in our state. Tim also believes we must expand our tax base by attracting new business to our state or encourage the expansion of businesses already here. We must change our policies towards small and family-owned businesses and stop taxing and regulating them out of business, they are the lifeblood of our economy and communities."
