Cool ran in the 2012 election for South Dakota State Senate District 11. Cool ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 5 and was defeated by David Omdahl (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1]

Cool was a Democratic candidate for District 11 in the South Dakota State Senate in the November 2, 2010 state legislative elections. He did not have any opposition in the June 8 primary. He was defeated by Todd Schlekeway (R) in the November 2 general election.
