Kirby was elected in the March 6, 2012 special election run-off. The special election was called to fill the vacancy created when Len Walker (R) resigned to take a job as pastor of church located outside his district.[1]

2012
Kirby ran in the 2012 election for Georgia House of Representatives District 114. Kirby defeated Rodney Upton in the Republican primary on July 31, 2012.[2] The general election took place on November 6, 2012. [3][4] Kirby ran unopposed in the general election.[5]

2012 Special election
Kirby faced Mark Banks (R), Paul Smith (R), and Michael Lynch (Nonpartisan) in the special election on February 7. In Georgia special elections, party affiliation is listed, but all candidates appear on the same ballot. Smith and Kirby were the top two vote-getters and proceeded to a run-off election on March 6, 2012.[6][7][8]
Kirby went on to defeat Smith in the March 6 runoff. Kirby won by a 52%-48% margin.[9][10]

Candidate forum
On February 2, the special election candidates for District 107 will participate in a candidate forum. The forum begins at 7pm and will be held in the Loganville City Hall, 4385 Pecan St. in the Council Chambers.[11]
