Williams joined the Georgia State Senate in 1999 and has served in that position since. From 2005 to 2008 he was Senate Majority Leader. He has been Senate President Pro Tempore since 2009.
Williams has worked as a Public School Teacher and Deacon for the First Baptist Church of Vidalia. He is a former Toombs County Onion Farmer. He is currently Founding Owner of Georgia Pine Straw, Incorporated.
Williams earned his Bachelors from the University of Georgia. He went on to receive his MA in Education from Georgia Southern University.
