Trinity Hospital District parcel tax, Measure T (June 2011)
Measure T will continue the hospital district's current tax of $118 per dwelling and $32 per undeveloped parcel for five more years. The tax generates about $900,000 a year for the hospital district.
A 2/3rds supermajority vote was required for passage.
Trinity Hospital offers the only 24-hour emergency room in Trinity County. This emergency room has about 5,000 visits every year. In endorsing a "yes" vote on Measure T, the Redding Record-Searchlight said:
- "And with some 5,000 ER visits a year, the hospital estimates it saves a life a week of patients who would otherwise need transport to hospitals in Redding or Humboldt County for care. That's a long drive or flight even in good weather. The parcel tax feels onerous to some residents, but it's a modest insurance premium for the guarantee that, when residents need it most, their local hospital will be open for them. And for $118 a year? Try to get a deal like that from Blue Cross."
