Union School District school tax, February 2009

A Union School District school tax vote was held on February 3, 2009 ballot in Black Hawk County for voters in the Union School District, where it was approved.[1]

  • Yes: 181 (83%) Approveda
  • No: 37 (17%)

It will allow the Union School District to put together a long-term infrastructure plan.

Voters were asked to "authorize the expenditure of revenues from the State of Iowa Secure an Advanced Vision for Education Fund received by the Union Community School District."

The 1 percent tax is already levied by the State of Iowa SAVE Fund; it will now go toward improvements to school buildings, outdoor athletic facilities and building additions.

Union School District official said they will implement a five-year plan which includes:

  • Air conditioning units in school buildings.
  • Building additions on each of the elementary schools for preschool classrooms.
  • Upgrading the high school’s outdoor track.
