Special elections to the 113th United States Congress (2013-2014)

Special elections to Congress occur when a legislator resigns or is removed from office. Depending on the specific state laws governing vacancies, a state can either hold an election within the same calendar year, or wait until the next regularly scheduled election. For the purposes of our coverage of Congressional special elections, we are combining all special elections pertaining to the 113th Congress onto one page. Some of these special elections will occur in 2013; others in 2014.
As of May 2013, a total of six congressional special elections have been scheduled to occur at some point in 2013-2014.
Breakdown of 113th United States Congress special elections
The reasons for special elections are as follows:
- 2 due to acceptance of private sector jobs
- 2 due to political appointment
- 1 due to a Senator's death
- 1 due to criminal prosecution/health issues
The partisan breakdown for vacancies is as follows:

- 3 Democratic seats
