The United States House of Representatives Committee on House Administration is a standing committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The committee was created by the Legislation Reorganization Act of 1946, and was officially established on January 2, 1947. The inaugural committee was chaired by Karl M. Le Compte.

Subcommittees

Elections

Jurisdiction: handles Federal election related issues, oversight of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and the Elections Assistance Commission (EAC), the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), the Federal Election Campaign Act, the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, and the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), and is responsible for contested elections under the Federal Contested Elections Act.

Oversight

Jurisdiction: focuses on identifying and reducing wasteful spending within House operations by increasing operational efficiency and streamlining various House technology initiatives, works with the agencies this Committee has direct oversight of by establishing best practices to help improve their services to the House community, as well as the millions of constituents visiting each year. These agencies include the Chief Administrative Officer, Architect of the Capitol, Clerk of the House, Sergeant at Arms, Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution, Government Printing Office and House Inspector General.

Joint Committee on Printing

Jurisdiction: oversees the operation of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO), whose support is essential to the legislative process of the Congress. The GPO also serves by law as the principal printing organization for Federal agencies, and so the Joint Committee generally oversees compliance by Federal agencies with laws, rules and regulations designed to minimize printing costs to the American people.

Jurisdiction: oversight of the operations of the Library of Congress, as well as management of the congressional art collection and the United States Botanic Garden.

Jurisdiction

According to the official House website, the jurisdiction of the House Administration Committee includes the following:

1. Oversight of federal elections became one of the chief tasks of the committee: issues concerning corrupt practices, contested congressional elections, campaign finance disclosures, and credentials and qualifications of House Members.
2. disbursing appropriations for committee staff and member staff salaries to handling parking assignments, restaurant services, and the issuance of identification badges.
3. administers travel allowances for Members, assigns office space, and compiles and publishes information related to campaign financial disclosures.
4. approves or denies the acceptance or purchase of works of art for the Capitol.
5. oversight of the Library of Congress, the House Library, the Botanic Gardens, and the Smithsonian Institution.
6. technological faciliation of House members, including internet access and emergency broadcast system.
7. improving security on the House side of the complex while maintaining a high level of accessibility for citizens.
