Hello! Thanks so much for all of your edits to the Ohio congressional pages. It's great to have another hand at putting in results and campaign links! --Geoff Pallay 07:15, 7 March 2012 (CST)

Candidate images

Quick comment on those photos. First, it's great that you have taken the initiative and time to upload photos. You also did successfully navigate the new {{candidate image}} template. However, a couple of things.

  • You did not include categories on the images, which is an important thing. The top category for congressional candidates is here: Category:Images of candidates for Congress
  • Second, the images that came from media outlets such as newspapers would not actually qualify as something that could be uploaded to our site under the Ballotpedia:Non-free use rationale guidelines for images. We're going to work on adding some more detailed explanations regarding sites that can and cannot be uploaded from. In general though, the purpose of the template was for use on candidate images from their campaign websites.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions or comments on this, and I'll be sure to come back and update you when we know more. --Geoff Pallay 22:57, 9 March 2012 (CST)

OK, I'll fix the categories as my next task. Some of the newspaper photos are provided by the candidate's campaign, who'd still hold the copyright. (Caption.) That might be taken into consideration too. But I'll stick to photos directly from the campaigns until you update me. Thanks. XDx5 23:07, 9 March 2012 (CST)
Oh yes, indeed, that's fascinating how in that photo the newspaper does explicitly make that note. In those cases, I'd probably take the small extra step of tracking down the original photo on the campaign website. So that's a great point. Let me know if you have any questions on the categories. Thanks again for all your contributions. --Geoff Pallay 23:18, 9 March 2012 (CST)
That campaign is so small that it doesn't seem to have a website. I think he just emailed the photo to the newspaper. XDx5 23:24, 9 March 2012 (CST)
