Valde Garcia

Valde Garcia has been a Republican member of the Michigan Senate since 2001. Garcia was the first Hispanic to ever be elected into the Michigan Senate. Garcia was elected to the Michigan Senate in 2001 and was re-elected to the Michigan Senate in 2002 and 2006. Under Michigan's term limits Law, Garcia is term limited in 2010. Garcia is exempted under Michigan's term limits law as he did not complete two full terms in the Michigan House[1].
Garcia has had extensive political experience before joining the Michigan Legislature. Garcia started his career as a Legislative Aide for former State Senator Harmon Cropsey in 1990 before joining the US Army on active duty in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm. After returning from active duty, Garcia was Chief of Staff for former State Senators Doug Carl and Mike Rogers from 1992 to 1995. Garcia was a private school teacher from 1995 to 1997 before joining the National Federation of Independent Businesses as Territory manager from 1997 till his election to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1998.

Personal
Valde is married to Karla Garcia. They have two children and reside in Howell, Michigan.
