Venezuala Presidential Term Limits Referendum (2009)

A Venezuala Presidential Term Limits Referendum vote took place in Venezuela on February 15, 2009.[1] It was approved by 54.4% of votes with 45.6% percent in opposition.[2]
The vote was on an amendment to the county's constitution that would abolish the limit on presidential terms, as well as those for other political offices.
The vote was at the instigation of president Hugo Chávez, who said he needs more time to continue his revolution:
- "There’s still much to do. I need more time. I need your vote."
If the move to abolish term limits had failed, Chavez would have had to leave office in 2013.
