Vermilion County Nursing Home Sale Question (November 2012)
This measure will ask voters if they want to allow the county to sell the Vermilion Manor nursing home. Due to delinquent payments from Medicare from the state, the nursing home does not bring in enough money to fund operations. County officials noted that this is not just the case in Vermilion county, nursing homes all across the state are faced with lost funds. If the county is denied the ability to sell the nursing home, then further cuts to other county programs would have to be made in order to fund the nursing home. A proposed increase to county property taxes had also been suggested to fund the nursing home, but was later turned down as it was determined that the county was already levying the max according to state statutes.
