Vermont to get $60,000 in nation-wide drug settlement

MONTPELIER, Vermont: Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell announced on Thursday, May 6, 2010, that "the state will receive $60,000 as part of a multimillion dollar settlement between a drug company and 49 states and the federal government." [1] Litigation was brought against both Novartis Pharmaceuticals and Novartis Vaccines & Diagnostics, Inc. after the companies were accused of promoting the use of a cystic fibrosis drug, tobramycin, in ways no approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Overall, Novaris will pay out $72.5 million in damages.
