Walpole Proposition 2 1/2 (2009)
The proposed debt exclusion override will allow the town of Walpole to borrow $6.2 million over 20 years to fund the construction of a new library. The average single-family household would pay $70 of property taxes during the first year of the bond. After that, a household would pay a decreasing amount during the rest of the tax period until the cost per household averaged $36.15.
Some residents voiced concerns over the measure, citing the poor economy and public safety cuts as reasons against the new library. The proposed construction of the building would ultimately cost $11.2 million.
According to resident John J. Perry: "I don't think we can afford a new library."
