Walter Sanders was the Republican candidate in the special election for the South Carolina House of Representatives, District 64. Sanders is running to fill the vacancy created when Democratic incumbent Cathy Harvin lost her battle with breast cancer on December 4, 2010, shortly after her re-election.[1]

Sanders graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Business Management. He also served in the US Army and South Carolina National Guard. He went on to work as office administrator for Congressman Floyd Spence. Sanders then served for nine years as Director of Legislative Affairs for the Office of State Treasurer. In addition, he has owned and operated businesses for 15 years, working as President and owner of Sanders Chrysler Plymouth Dodge and President of Carolina Fresh Pac, Inc. He has also volunteered for organizations such as Relay for Life and the Lukemia Society. Sanders is married to his wife Ann. They have two children.[2]

Sanders was defeated by Kevin Johnson (D) in the April 5, 2011 special election. Johnson (D) defeated Sanders (R) by a 52.5% to 47.5% margin.[3]
