Cassidy is a retired 7-12th grade Principal. He retired in 2000. Ward also taught High School and Junior High social studies for four years.
Cassidy earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Northwest Oklahoma State University in 1969. In 1972, Ward continued on at Northwest Oklahoma State and earned his Masters degree in Counseling and Administration. Ward also earned a Specialist in Educational Administration, EdS. from Fort Hays State University in 1985.

Cassidy won re-election in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 120. He defeated District 121 incumbent Rick Billinger in the August 7 Republican primary and was unopposed in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2][3]

Cassidy defeated incumbent John Faber in the Republican primary on August 3, 2010 by a margin of 2,418-1,925.[4] Faber was seeking his eighth term. Cassidy defeated Robert Strevey (D) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[5]
