Initiative 119 or I-119, an Initiative to the Legislature, was on the November 5, 1991 ballot in the State of Washington, where it was defeated.
If I-119 had passed, it would have allowed adult patients in a medically terminal condition to request and receive aid-in-dying from a physician.
Path to the ballot
The language for the measure was filed on March 14, 1990 by Bradley K. Robinson of Seattle.
218,327 signatures were submitted, and the measure was certified to the Washington State Legislature on February 8, 1991
The Legislature declined to act and as per laws governing the initiative process in Washington, I-119 was then put on the ballot for a statewide vote of the people.
