State of Washington Constitutional Amendment 61 (House Joint Resolution 61) was a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment to the Washington State Constitution. It was on the November 7, 1972 ballot in the State of Washington, where it was approved.

Amendment 61 amended Article XXXI, Section 2 of the Washington State Constitution.

Text of measure

The ballot question was, "Shall a new article be added to the state constitution to provide that equality of rights and responsibilities under the law shall not be denied or abridged on account of sex, and to authorize the legislature to enforce this provision by the enactment of appropriate legislation?"
