Washington Fishing Regulations, Initiative 640 (1995)

Initiative 640 or I-640, an Initiative to the People, was on the November 7, 1995 ballot in the State of Washington, where it was defeated.

I-640 asked if state fishing regulations should be written so as to ensure certain survival rates for non-targeted catch, and to prioritize commercial and recreational fishing.

Path to the ballot

The language for the measure was filed on January 9, 1995 by Frank Haw of Olympia.

258,995 signatures were submitted and the Washington Secretary of State deemed that there were sufficient signatures to put I-640 to a vote of the people.
