Washington Initiative 678, also known as the Licensing of Dental Hygenists Initiative, was on the November 4, 1997 election ballot in Washington as an Initiative to the People, where it was defeated.

The question asked on the ballot was, "Shall dental hygienists who obtain a special license endorsement be permitted to perform designated dental hygiene services without the supervision of a licensed dentist?"

Yes: 787,607 (47.13%)
No: 883,488 (52.87%)
