Washington Initiative 695 is also known as the $30 License Tab Initiative. It was on the November 2, 1999 ballot in the State of Washington as an Initiative to the People where it was approved.
- Yes: 992,715 (56.16%)
- No: 775,054 (43.84%)
The question on the ballot was, "Shall voter approval be required for any tax increase, license tab fees be $30 per year for motor vehicles, and existing vehicle taxes be repealed?"
Path to the ballot
514,141 signatures were submitted by Tim Eyman to qualify the measure as an Initiative to the People.
Judicial invalidation
On March 14, 2000, the Washington Supreme Court declared that I-695 was invalid on single subject grounds, in the case, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 587 v. State of Washington.
