A Revert Motor Vehicle Tax Laws to Previous Versions, Initiative 348 was on the November 8, 1977 ballot in the State of Washington as an Initiative to the People, where it was very narrowly approved.

The question asked on the ballot was, "Shall the new variable motor vehicle fuel tax be repealed and the previous tax and distribution formula be reinstated?"

  • No: 471,031 (49.95%)

Path to the ballot

Initiative 348 was filed on June 29, 1977 by Harley Hoppe of Mercer Island. 202,168 signatures were submitted to qualify the measure for the ballot.
