Washington SJR 8214 was on the November 7, 2000 election ballot in Washington as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment where it was approved.

The ballot title question asked of voters was, "Shall the state constitution be amended to permit state funds held in trust for persons with developmental disabilities to be invested as authorized by law?"

  • Yes: 1,450,749 (64.85%) Approved
  • No: 786,185 (35.15%)

SJR 8214 became the 93rd amendment to the Washington State Constitution. It amended Section 1 of Article XXIX.

Text of the proposal

The language that appeared on the ballot:

Shall the state constitution be amended to permit state funds held in trust for persons with developmental disabilities to be invested as authorized by law?

Legislative Constitutional Amendment

Explanatory Statement by Attorney General: If adopted, this measure would remove the constitutional limitations on investment of any fund held in trust for the benefit of persons with developmental disabilities. The legislature would be authorized to determine by law how these funds could be invested.
