The Washington Prohibit Income Tax Without Vote Initiative, also known as I-1101, did not appear on the November 2, 2010 ballot in Washington as an Initiative to the People. The proposed measure would have prohibited enactment of an income tax without a vote of the people. According to state officials, no petitions were filed in an effort to qualify the measure for the ballot.

Concise Description:This measure would prohibit enactment of an income tax without a vote of the people and provide for a recall election of any elected official who attempts to repeal or suspend the measure.

Summary

According to the description prepared by the Washington Secretary of State:

This measure would provide that the state may not enact a state income tax without a vote of the people. The state would be directed to inform voters, in writing, of the intent to implement or increase an income tax at least six months before the income tax appears on the ballot. The measure would provide that a recall election be held for any elected official who attempts to repeal or suspend this measure.

According to state officials, no petitions were filed in an effort to qualify the measure for the ballot. In order to qualify for the November ballot, supporters were required to submit a minimum of 241,153 valid signatures by July 2, 2010.
