A Wauconda Village Fire District Annexation measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in the village of Wauconda which is in Lake County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 2,847 (72.33%)Approveda
  • NO 1,089 (27.67%)[1]

This measure asked residents if they wanted to allow the annexation of the Wauconda fire protection district. Village officials said that utility bills would be cut with this annexation.[2] In a preemptive move, village officials had created a list of budget cuts that could potentially be made if this measure had not gotten approved. Currently, the village pays $2 million for fire protection services and since this measure was approved those costs will be shifted to property taxes on local residents, about $269 on average for the first year. If this had not been approved, the village would have needed to find other ways to come up with the money. Officials held informational meetings about the referendum in order to help inform residents as well as ensure voters have all the facts before they went to vote.[3]
