Waukegan & Park City Electrical Aggregation Questions, 2 (March 2012)
Two Waukegan & Park City Electrical Aggregation Questions were on the March 20, 2012 ballot in the cities of Waukegan and Park which are in Lake County.
Both measures were defeated[1]
The Park city measure sought to allow city officials to aggregate electricity for residents and small businesses in order to obtain lower rates. City officials would have had the ability to seek other electricity company bids and choose which rate they thought would be best for those participating in the program. Aggregating electricity allows for the city to have a larger purchasing power.[2]
The Waukegan city measure sought to do the same, allow city officials to aggregate electricity, seek other companies for electricity and obtain lower rates for residents who want to be a part of the program. City officials saw this vote as getting the opinion of residents if they want officials to look for other providers for electricity in the city. One City Council member voted against placing this measure on the ballot, noting that this could end up costing more for residents.[3]
