Rosenthal owns and operates a family farm and is a retired Brigadier General in the Illinois Air National Guard. He serves as a trustee on the Lincoln Land Community College Board of Trustees and previously sat on the Morrisonville Community Unit School District #1 Board of Education and the Macoupin County Soil & Water Conservation District Board. Rosenthal holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Sangamon State University (now the University of Illinois-Springfield).

Rosenthal won re-election in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 95. Rosenthal was unopposed in the March 20 Republican primary and defeated Brad Gillespie (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2][3]
2010
Rosenthal ran unopposed in the February 2 Republican Primary. Rosenthal defeated Charles Landers (D) in the November 2 general election.[4]
