Wayne Niederhauser is the Republican President of the Utah State Senate, representing the 9th District since his appointment in 2007.

Niederhauser previously served as Majority Whip.

Niederhauser has worked as and Adjunct Professor for Westminister College. He has also worked as a real estate developer. He is a certified accountant as well.

Niederhauser earned his BS in Accounting from Utah State University, and shortly thereafter he earned his MS.

Medicaid expansion

Niederhauser told the 2013 Sutherland Institute Legislative Policy Conference that he agreed with Utah House Speaker Rebecca Lockhart's comments on Medicaid expansion at the conference. Lockhart called for the federal government to give Utah its Medicaid funds as a block grant, which she said would enable Utah to carry out the federally required expansion of Medicaid at the present funding level.[1]

Niederhauser was re-elected to the 9th District Seat in 2010. He defeated Tyler Ayres for the seat on the Democratic ticket in the general election on November 2, 2010.[2][3]

On November 7, 2006, Niederhauser was elected to the 9th District Seat in the Utah State Senate, defeating opponent Trisha Beck (D).[4]
