West Virginia US Senate special election cost reached over $3 million

CHARLESTON, West Virginia: Secretary of State Natalie Tennant released actual cost figures of the West Virginia United States Senate special election on Tuesday, December 21st, 2010.[1]

The August 2010 special primary election resulted in a total cost of $3,081,401. The West Virginia Legislature authorized $3 million in funding to cover the costs of the election. All 55 West Virginia counties will receive reimbursement from the $3,081,401 incurred by the state.[1]

Most of the money will go to counties paying their poll workers. Another portion of the money will go towards the printing costs of the ballots used in the election.[1]
