This page details West Virginia signature requirements. In many states, the signatures of registered voters must be collected to place candidates or initiatives on the ballot. However, for candidates, filing fees are sometimes required or accepted in lieu of signatures.

In West Virginia, candidates running for both federal and state office are required to submit a filing fee equal to 1% of the salary of the office they seek. Write-in candidates are not required to submit a filing fee.[1]

Minor party candidates are not required to submit a filing fee, but must obtain signatures equal to no less than one percent of the entire votes cast at the last preceding general election for the office being sought. This number can never be less than twenty-five signatures.[1]
