William Dotzler is a Democratic member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 31 since 2013 and currently serving as Assistant Majority Leader. He previously represented District 11 from 2003 to 2013. He previously served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1996 to 2002.

Dotzler earned his AA from North Iowa Area Community College in 1969. He went on to receive his BA in Biology from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975.

Dotzler is a past President of Waterloo Visiting Nursing Association. He worked in the United States Army Security Agency in Military Intelligence from 1969 to 1972. He is a retired Machine Operator and Labor Representative for John Deere & Company.
