Hamilton attended Potomac State College, Ohio State Fire Academy, and the Investment Institute of Atlanta. He received his diploma from Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1969.
Hamilton has been owner and President of Loudin Insurance Agency Incorporated since 1974. He has also worked as a securities representative for ON Equity Sales Company since 1975. He has been a hunter safety instructor for the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources from 1988 to the present.[1]

Hamilton ran for re-election in the 2012 election for West Virginia House of Delegates, District 45. Hamilton ran unopposed in the May 8 primary election and was unchallenged in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4]
2010
Hamilton was re-elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates District 39 in the November 2, 2010 general election. He defeated Republicans Tom O'Neill and Jerry Reynolds in the May 11 primary. He was unopposed in the general election. [5][6][7]
