Hamrick was elected to the Georgia State Senate in a special election on March 7, 2000.
Hamrick is a past Intern for the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office. He is currently an attorney.
Hamrick earned his Bachelors in Business Administration from Auburn University. He went on to receive his JD from Georgia State University College of law in 1992.

Hamrick ran in the 2012 election for Georgia State Senate District 30. Hamrick ran unopposed in the Republican primary on July 31, 2012. No Democratic candidates filed to run for the seat. A special election primary will be held to fill his seat on November 6, 2012. [3][4]
