Jackson was Chairman of the Columbia County Board of Education. He served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1979 to 2002. He was also a member of the State Board of Corrections from 2006 to 2007. He was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2007 and has served in that position since. Jackson has been a Businessman for Tile Center Incorporated since 1961.
