The Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group (WISPIRG) is a group of Wisconsin citizens dedicated to serving the needs of the common citizen. When consumers are cheated or the voices of ordinary citizens are drowned out by special interest lobbyists, WISPIRG speaks up and takes action. We uncover threats to public health and well-being and fight to end them, using the time-tested tools of investigative research, media exposés, grassroots organizing, advocacy and litigation. WISPIRG’s mission is to deliver persistent, result-oriented public interest activism that protects consumers, encourages a fair, sustainable economy, and fosters responsive, democratic government

Fight Against Political Corruption WISPIRG believes that enforcement is key. The current system is broken. Overseeing one’s own colleagues is difficult under any circumstances, but oversight in a partisan-charged environment like Congress is, as we have now seen, impossible. This is not to say that members of Congress are any less capable than others to self-police, no one self-polices well. In the Executive Branch there is an Office of Government Ethics. Businesses have outside auditors. Congress needs independent and professional oversight and enforcement of the rules.
