OLYMPIA, Washington: Washington's petition drive deadline is a day away but already initiative supporters are beginning to submit signatures. On June 30 the proposed Washington Workers' Comp Insurance Reform, Initiative 1082 became the second initiative to file signatures. Initiative 1100 filed signatures on June 26. Supporters are estimated to have filed 340,000 signatures, exceeding the 241,153 minimum requirement.[1][2]

According to the filed petition, the proposal would authorize employers to purchase private industrial insurance beginning July 1, 2012; direct the legislature to enact conforming legislation by March 1, 2012; and eliminate the worker-paid share of medical-benefit premiums.[3]
