Dorsey-Colomb ran for re-election in 2011. She defeated Michael Jackson (D) and Christopher Toombs (R) in the October 22 primary. Because Louisiana uses a blanket primary system, a candidate can be declared the overall winner of the seat by garnering 50 percent +1 of the vote in the primary.[1]

Races to watch

On September 12, 2011, Bayou Buzz issued a report on the top five Louisiana Senate races to watch. The race between Dorsey-Colomb, Jackson and Toombs was ranked as number 3. The report cited Dorsey-Colomb as not accomplishing much in the legislature, while Jackson has raised his profile. Jackson, it noted, would not be a solid Democratic vote, which Dorsey-Colomb had been.[2]

In 2007 Dorsey-Colomb was elected to the Louisiana State Senate District 14. Dorsey-Colomb (D) finished with 8,701 votes while her opponent Jason Decuir (D) finished with 8,608 votes.[3]
