An effort to recall Yvonne Parks, Jan Pye, and Scott Matas from their elected positions on the city government of Desert Hot Springs, California, was launched and abandoned in May 2012.[1] Parks serves as mayor of Desert Hot Springs, while Pye serves as Mayor Pro Tem and Matas is a councilman.
Background
Pamela Berry, a member of a group called Citizens for Good Government, took out recall paperwork against the three officials. At a May 15th city council meeting, Berry announced that she was going to initiate a recall campaign because the targeted officials were "throwing away city money." Berry said that she had obtained the 25 signatures necessary to initiate recall proceedings, but no one submitted an official Notice of Intent to recall. According to the laws governing recall in California, recall organizers are required to file notice with the city within seven days of informing elected officials about a recall effort.[1]
