The Kansas Attorney General election of 2010 will be held on November 2, 2010 following a primary election on August 3, 2010.

The deadline for filing nominating signatures was June 10 for partisan candidates and August 2, 2010 (by 12pm) for independents.

Background

As directed by Article I, §11 of the Kansas State Constitution, former Governor and current Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius appointed Democrat Stephen Six in 2008 to fill the office of state attorney general. [1] The vacancy in the position had been left following the resignation of Paul Morrison in the wake of his sex scandal.

Polling

Survey USA poll

Survey USA, a public opinion polls and private market research firm, under contract with a local news station in Kansas surveyed 882 registered voters about all the statewide races on the ballot in November; of these, 588 were deemed to be likely voters. The polling data shows Republicans maintaining double-digit leads in all contests, including for state attorney general. It should be noted, however, that Survey USA does not use live call center employees, but rather an automated system in which taped questions are asked via a professional announcer; the respondent is then invited to press a button on their phone or record a message indicating their selections.
