Michelle McManus has been a Republican member of the Michigan State Senate since 2002 and is currently the Assistant Majority Leader. McManus was re-elected in November of 2006 with her term expiring in 2010. McManus is term limited in 2010. McManus also served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1993 to 1998. McManus also ran for Congress in Michigan's 1st Congressional District in 1998 but lost to incumbent Bart Stupak.

McManus has had previous political experience before becoming an elected official. McManus was a State Senate Aide and and Aide for formter State Representative Thomas Power. McManus also served as the the Director of the Northern Michigan Office for Michigan Governor John Engler from 1999 to 2002. McManus graduated from Central Michigan with her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science in 1989.
