The Alabama Constitution was ratified in 1901. At more than 800 amendments and 310,000 words, it is the world's longest constitution. It is said to be approximately forty times the length of the U.S. Constitution. Also known as "the Heart of Dixie,” Alabama’s capital is Montgomery, but its largest city by population is Birmingham.

Alabama has two members of the U.S. Senate, a total of six members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 35 members of the State Senate and 105 members of the House of Representatives.
