Silvia won election in the 2012 election for Massachusetts House of Representatives Seventh Bristol District. He defeated incumbent Kevin Aguiar in the September 6 Democratic primary. The vote tally was exceptionally close and eventually went to a recount. Despite some lingering questions from Aguiar's attorney, recount officials handed in results on September 14, 2013, declaring that Silvia had won by 26 votes.[1]He was unopposed in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2]
