Thapedi won re-election in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 32. Thapedi defeated Bobby Joe Johnson in the March 20 Democratic primary and was unopposed in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4]

Thapedi won re-election to the 32nd District Seat in 2010 with no opposition. He defeated Yvetter Williams in the Democratic primary on February 2nd by a margin of 5,816 to 3,672. The general election took place on November 2, 2010. [5]
