Andrea Stewart-Cousins is a Democratic member of the New York State Senate, representing District 35 since 2007 and serving as Minority Leader in the 2013 session. Stewart-Cousins was on the Legislation Committee for the Worchester County Legislature as the Majority Whip. She was also Vice-Chair of the Westchester County Democratic Party. She served in the Westchester County Legislature from 1996 to 2006.

Stewart-Cousins has worked in the following positions: English Teacher for Lincoln High School, Journalist for Gannett, Human Resources Manager for Careerblazers, and Marketing Professional for American Telephone & Telegraph. She was also Director of Community Affairs for the City of Yonkers from 1992 to 1996.

Stewart-Cousins earned her BS from Pace University. She then studied Business Education at Lehman College. She later earned her MPA from Pace University in 2008.

Stewart-Cousins ran in the 2012 election for New York State Senate District 35. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2012. She also ran on the Working Families Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets. Stewart-Cousins was unchallenged in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [1][2]
