Andrew Gonzalez was an at-large member of the Old Bridge Township Board of Education in New Jersey. He initially filed for re-election in 2013 but withdrew on August 21 to accept a position with Teach for America.[1] Gonzalez was defeated by Annette Tunyla-Hopman, Nancy M. Mongon and Balwinder Singh on November 5, 2013. He was first elected to the board in 2010.


Gonzalez earned an A.A. in Liberal Arts from Middlesex County College. He later studied Political Science and Economics at Rutgers University. Gonzalez previously worked as a legislative intern for State Senator Barbara Buono. He is currently working as a teacher with Teach for America in Newark Public Schools.[2]

Gonzalez reported no contributions or expenditures to the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.[3]

What was at stake?

Gonzalez was the only incumbent to appear on the ballot even though he resigned from the board on August 21, 2013. His name remained on the ballot because the withdrawal took place after the creation of a final candidates list.[1] Fellow members Eugene Donofrio and Fred Colabella did not seek re-election in 2013.[4]
