Aravella Simotas is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly. She has represented District 36 since 2011.

Simotas worked as a federal law clerk before joining the practice of Bickle & Brewer, where she specialized in corporate governance litigation. She has political experience serving as a district representative to New York City Council officials. Upon being elected to the New York State Assembly, she became the first Greek-American woman elected to office in New York and the first woman elected to represent her district.

She received her B.A. in economics and philosophy from Fordham University, and her J.D. from Fordham Law School. She lives in Astoria with her husband, John Katsanos
