The Arizona gubernatorial election will take place on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Jan Brewer (R) is term-limited from seeking re-election in 2014. Brewer was originally appointed to the position in 2009 and has been elected one time since, in 2010. Arizona constitution's rules governing gubernatorial term limits preclude any individual who has occupied the office during two consecutive terms from running for re-election. The way the law was written, or intended, Brewer and some of her spokespeople asserted, it does not adequately account for the conditions of Brewer's incomplete first term of service. Hints that Brewer would attempt to qualify for another shot in 2014--hoping her circumstances might warrant an exemption from the law--began in November 2012, and persisted up until March 2014.[1][2]

Arizona is one of 21 states with a mixed primary system. The primary is considered semi-closed. Unaffiliated voters may choose which party's primary they will vote in, but voters registered with a party can only vote in that party's primary.[3][4][5]

Note: The following list of candidates is not official and will continue to be updated until the 2014 candidate filing deadline. Candidates will be added as we come across them prior to the deadline.
