The Arizona Parks Initiative, also known as the Arizona Natural Resources Protection Act, did not make the November 6, 2012 ballot in the state of Arizona as an initiated state statute. The proposal would have allocated automobile tax revenues to state parks in the budget. According to reports, the revenue would have been used for operations, maintenance and other improvements for those state parks.[1]

Support

  • Bill Meek, spokesperson for the campaign in favor of the measure, stated at the time, “We need to act now. This is a legacy campaign for all generations in Arizona’s centennial year. Help Arizona, its children, and its natural resources now."[2]

Path to the ballot

According to reports, petition drive organizers must have collected 172,809 valid signatures from registered voters by the July 5, 2012 petition drive deadline in order to make the ballot.

According to reports, the measure did not file signatures by the deadline.[3]
