Arne Carlson (b. September 24, 1934) was the Independent Republican 37th Governor of Minnesota from January 7, 1991 – January 4, 1999.[1]

Personal

Carlson was married first to Barbabra Duffy, with whom he had three children, the oldest of whom died as an infant in 1966. He then married Joanne Chabot in 1977 and Susan Shepard in 1985. Susan Carlson kept her job when her husband became governor, making the Carlsons the first two-income First Family in Minnesota history. They had one daughter.[2]
