An Aspen Lift One Master Plan ballot measure originally intended for the May 5, 2009 ballot in Pitkin County for City of Aspen voters was removed from the ballot at a March 23, 2009 city council meeting.

The local ballot measure proposed a 300,000 square foot commercial and residential development on the Lift 1A side of Aspen Mountain. However, at the request of the two hotel developers the measure was removed on the ballot. In January 2009 the council voted 2-2 on the package and left the final decision to voters. The developers proceeded to conduct a public opinion poll which according to the developers revealed a large amount of opposition and little chance for the measure to pass. Mayor Mike Ireland said that the project will not be going on the ballot “because it isn’t flying with the public. It’s too big.”

Currently the project in on hold while the developers attempt to redesign the building to be more acceptable to the community. According to city officials the Lodge at Aspen Mountain has been on the table for discussion since 2005. [1]
